Cinco cuerdas llenas de café especial

The industry continues to be resilient, and nestled in the backwoods of Adjuntas' Barrio Vegas Arriba at 2,060 feet above sea level is Finca Samara. This boutique farm of just five acres produces coffee with the most artisanal practices we've ever witnessed. Yes, just as you read it, this farm has a small production, but with a first class quality in each bean, proving the theory that you can do more with less.

The rigorousness of its owner and coffee grower, Natalia Velez, along with her assistants is impressive. After the 100% ripe coffee is picked, they pulp it, float it (measure density) and immediately begin to reject the defects of the bean to guarantee you a Puerto Rican specialty coffee . The way they benefit the coffee is by using the "washed process" or washing. This process helps to have a much cleaner cup and, beyond looking for exotic flavors, they look for consistency in the attributes of the coffee, such as sweetness, acidity, bitterness, body and aroma .

On the other hand, the beauty of Café La Perla Negra is that it involves another coffee grower in the production chain. The coffee grower and roaster of Café Mayor and Café Gripiñas, Mr. Luis Valldejuly, is in charge of roasting Café La Perla Negra, thus creating an economic collaboration between both Puerto Rican agribusinesses.

The roasting that is given to this coffee is a medium roast, honoring the whole process of production and processing. You will find a clean cup with very good sweetness, chocolate flavors, hints of tobacco and dried fruits like figs.

Knowing all this information that we were part of in the last pick up we did, drinking a cup of Café La Perla Negra is an experience and we want to share it with you. Today we celebrate the launch of Café La Perla Negra to the market and we want you to be part of this great celebration.

Thank you for supporting Puerto Rican coffee and the small business owners who benefit from all the components that make up the coffee industry in Puerto Rico.
