Who are we?

We are a virtual platform that serves as a direct link between coffee lovers and coffee growers and roasters of Puerto Rico. Cuela is a store that offers brands of gourmet coffee to the local market and to the diáspora of Puerto Rico.

Cuela was born out of the nostalgia felt by its founders, coffee lovers, while living outside of Puerto Rico. Neither in Spain nor in the United States did they find a way to purchase quality, freshly roasted Puerto Rican coffee.

Faced with this reality, they decided to start a project to expose and market the various artisanal brands of coffee from Puerto Rico, at the same time, provide the products in a consistent manner.

Although Hurricane Maria affected the coffee plantations, many farms are already in the process of rejuvenation and the latest harvests have demonstrated this. One of our goals is to raise awareness of new coffee brands and highlight the great work of small coffee growers and roasters with the purpose of boosting and expanding the sale of the different existing brands.

Our Mission:

  • To support the coffee industry in Puerto Rico through the sale and marketing of Puerto Rican artisan brands.
  • To educate about the process of planting, harvesting and making a good cup of coffee.
  • To expand the local and international clientele of the coffee brands to consistently reach residents throughout the island and the Puerto Rican diaspora in the United States in order to create a sense of community among coffee lovers.

Enio A. Suasnávar Torres

Educated and worked for two years in public relations and marketing. A love for the culture of his country and a desire to get involved in the business world made his professional life take a 180 degree turn and led him to venture into the coffee industry. Enio began working as a barista at the Museo del Café in Ciales. There he learned everything about coffee: from the elaboration of the aromatic elixir to roasting and quality control. He continued his development as a barista in other coffee shops in the metropolitan area of Puerto Rico such as Tazón Coffee Shop and Café Don Ruiz in Old San Juan. His desire to contribute to the coffee industry in Puerto Rico, led him to found Cuela along with Gustavo Fadhel and Carlos Sanchez.

Carlos Sánchez Nieves

He defines himself as a lover of agriculture, exercise and meditation. In addition to graduating with a degree in Agronomy from the UPR in Mayagüez, Carlitos, as he is affectionately known, is a tireless student of innovation. He discovered this passion when he was a graduate student in Madrid and has developed it by serving as a business strategist in various entrepreneurial projects in Puerto Rico. His philosophy is that life is a continuous learning process. Therefore, he did not hesitate to join Cuela and contribute his knowledge to the company by being in charge of organizing the execution plans in the area of logistics and web development.

Gustavo Fadhel Carballo

Gustavo is a calculator by nature. Needless to say, he is in charge of Cuela's finances and the person in charge of quantifiable directions to know what actions to take in terms of the projects that are launched. Although introverted, he is characterized by taking action in difficult moments. His expertise as a CPA has been key in guiding Cuela along the paths of fiscal responsibility, but more so his understanding and empathy with the team has contributed to the development of our company.

Why do we do it?

Our commitment is to honor the coffee industry in Puerto Rico through our service. We invite you to join us on this refreshing Puerto Rican coffee journey.
